About the Ponds

Welcome to the Chilled Ponds Ice and Turf Sports Complex, Hampton Road's premier sports facility. Our 90,000 square-foot footprint consists of a NHL skating rink and an oversized (200’x100’) Sportexe Turf field creating the ultimate regional sports destination for players of all ages, participating in all sporting activities.  On the Ice side, Chilled Ponds offers public skating sessions, birthday parties, learn to skate programs, adult hockey and youth hockey leagues. On the Turf side, we offer a full slate of adult and youth soccer and lacrosse as well as field hockey, flag football, baseball, dodge ball and kickball.

Chilled Ponds is host to Chilled Ponds Hockey League (CPHL) as well as Whaler Nation Youth and Junior Hockey teams for players 6-20 years of age who compete throughout the United States and Canada. Additionally, we are the official practice facility for the Norfolk Admirals, Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) main affiliate team of the American Hockey League.  At the Adult hockey level, we offer our renowned Ponds Adult Hockey League (PAH) which consists of three levels of play for a fun and competitive structure year-around. Chilled Ponds features a world class Learn to Skate/Figure skating instructional team for all skaters ranging from beginners to high caliber skaters.

The new climate controlled indoor Turf field features Hampton Roads first oversized professional grade rubber infill field. The field is open to all area sporting organizations, teams and players for practice, games, tournaments and specialized training. The incredible response to the new turf field has been tremendous as it provides a professional setting for participation without weather cancellations in a comfortable spectator environment with all amenities within one building.  

Chilled Ponds has been featured in the national publication, Rink magazine, as a World class, premier skating complex which hosts several destination events throughout the year. Among those events is our Hockey Weekend tournament series which attracts hundreds of hockey teams, families and enthusiasts from all across the North America to Chesapeake. The premier facility is well complimented by its central location immediately off interstate I64 and walking distance to multiple hotel accommodations, restaurants and shopping.

The success of Chilled Ponds through our management team is highly recognized throughout the skating facility industry having created vast social and economic impact to the City of Chesapeake via our efficient and successful programming and marketing of ice sports in a previously "non- traditional" ice skating region.
